It’s easy to be a jerk. We’ve all been there. We’ve all had those moments where we say or do something that we know is hurtful, and we do it anyway.
Being a jerk is easy because it’s easy to rationalize our bad behavior. We can convince ourselves that we’re just being honest, or that the other person deserves it, or that we were really just joking around.
The truth is, being a jerk is usually a choice. We can choose to be kind, even when it’s not easy. We can choose to be respectful, even when the other person isn’t. And we can choose to let go of our need to always be right, or to always have the last word.
It might not always feel like it, but we always have a choice in how we treat others. And when we make the choice to be kind, we make the world a little bit better.
